Flexible Learning
Flexible
learning is an approach to education and training that caters for
you as an individual. At Stones & Muirden Business College &
Training Centre you work through a series of carefully designed
learning guides to achieve the competencies needed to obtain your
learning goals. Qualified facilitators are available to assist you
when you need them and your progress is monitored throughout your
course.
Being
flexible means you may study at your own pace, work at College or
from your own home and choose when you want to be assessed, BUT you
must ensure that you inform the College of:
3.
If you are working from home you will
need to submit work on a regular basis, either in person, post or
via email so that your progress can be monitored.
Classroom Training
Training
is delivered 'face to face' by qualified trainers and you are
required to attend each scheduled class. The trainer will moderate
the learning pace, method and sequence appropriate to the learning
needs.
Learning
methods will vary and can include case study scenarios, field trips,
'hands on' practical classes, role play techniques, discussions,
presentations and assignments.
Classroom Assessment
Assessment tasks and strategies cover a wide range of methods and
may include the creation of specific written documents, projects or
reports, formal questions (multiple choice, short and long answer),
practical demonstrations, small or large group tasks, oral
presentations, problem solving tasks, case studies and discussions.
Broadly, classroom assessments have two or three assessment tasks
for each unit of competency or module.
As a
general rule for major assessments, you will be provided with task
assessment instructions including the date the task is due for
completion.
Workplace Experience
Workplace
experience provides students with valuable opportunities to develop
and demonstrate new skills in a workplace environment and is
compulsory for all students undertaking Business Certificate courses
at Stones and Muirden Business College and Training Centre.
A three
day work placement will be organised by your facilitator towards the
end of your course. During the three day work placement you will be
required to attend from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily and dress
appropriately.
Exceptions to this requirement are students already in
administrative roles in office employment or who have recently been
employed in an office administration position. These students may be
eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
Clinical Placement
Students
undertaking a Certificate III in Aged Care are required to complete
60 hours clinical placement during their 10 week course. Students
will be assessed while on clinical placement as part of their
certificate.
Resources
The
College will supply all workbooks and study guides required for your
study. The exercises and tasks from these books will need to be
completed and handed up for marking or sent via email.
To help
you with your studies there are many additional resources such as
handouts, extra tasks and useful web sites. Please ask your
facilitator for any additional resources you may require.
Whatever
the form of assessment, it is essential that the work you are
assessed on is your own.
Examples
of cheating are:
If a facilitator suspects that work submitted is not original, it
will be challenged and the student will be asked to submit another
piece of work for assessment or alternatively will receive a
competency not
achieved mark for the unit.
Course
and Unit Evaluations
Evaluation forms are provided for each unit and course studied.
Students are encouraged to complete these evaluations at the end of
their studies. Evaluation forms assist the College to revise course
materials,
review policies and procedures and to develop and implement
improvements.
Unit of
Competency Descriptors
A Unit of
Competency Descriptor is included in the relevant study guide and
will be discussed at the commencement of a course. This descriptor
will indicate how many nominal hours are required to complete the
unit. It is up to you to monitor your time and to complete the work
within the nominal hours.
Your
progress is very much your responsibility. Each timetable will allow
you enough nominal hours to complete the unit/s. If you have not
completed the unit/s in the time available you must attempt to
finish these at home or by using your own personal time. Refer to
the Study Deadline Policy.
