Stones & Muirden Business College & Training Centre was originally named
Stones College & Training Centre and established by Mrs Alice Stone in
1969. Mrs Stone purchased a small, secretarial service/employment
agency, Office Service Bureau, located in Gays Arcade off Adelaide
Arcade, Rundle Mall. In response to a market need, she began to expand
the keyboard training area of this business and subsequently developed a
range of general administrative courses for part-time and full-time
students. By 1971, she had established a reputation for providing
well-trained administrative staff to employers and seized the
opportunity to expand the training enterprise further with a new name,
Stones Commercial College & Training Centre.
Alice was a far-sighted businesswoman, and until her death in 1989, she
continuously updated facilities and equipment and the College & Training
Centre was one of the first to introduce computer training in the
private sector.
In 1992, the ownership of the College & Training Centre passed from the
Stone family to Michele Calnan and Peter Carvosso. This partnership had
a well-established reputation in the training arena and injected new
energy into the College & Training Centre. Michele and Peter were able
to achieve a balance of the traditional values upon which Alice Stone
had based the success of the College & Training Centre, together with a
modern and up-to-date training environment incorporating the latest
technology.
In June 1997 an important event took place with the joining of Stone’s
College & Training Centre with Muirden Business Studies Centre. Mr Ian
Muirden established a separate business training arm of his College &
Training Centre in 1971 and this institution also had a solid,
family-owned reputation. The joining of these two well-established names
was very successful and the College & Training Centre continued to
provide high-quality, post-secondary education under its new name,
Stones & Muirden Business College & Training Centre.
In May 1999, the ownership of the College & Training Centre changed to a
partnership based in Hong Kong. The Directors of the College & Training
Centre were YY Hui and Elsie Leung.
In March 2004, the ownership of the College & Training Centre changed to
MHS Group Pty Ltd.
In November 2007 Stones & Muirden Business College & Training Centre was
purchased by Don Wake, a very successful South Australian business man
who owns Wake Education Centre Pty. Ltd. Under the direction of Mr.
Wake, Stones & Muirden Business College & Training Centre plan to
maintain the high standard of successful education of our students,
increase our business with new courses and increase the registration of
scope.
