Equal Opportunity is concerned with the fair treatment of staff, students and visitors to Stones & Muirden Business College & Training Centre, and the application of special measures, which remove any disadvantage. This will apply:

  • when offering and providing educational services (including job placement).

  • when offering and providing employment to staff.

  • when selecting students for course participation.

  • when delivering courses to students.

  • when advertising courses/services.

  • when issuing qualifications.

 

Unlawful discrimination (direct or indirect, intentional or unintentional) will not be tolerated.

 

Rights and Responsibilities

  • Staff have the right to work in an environment free of discrimination and harassment.

  • Students have the right to learn in an environment free of discrimination and harassment.

  • Staff and students have the responsibility not to discriminate against or harass other staff or students.

  • The Management of Stones & Muirden Business College & Training Centre will ensure that the workplace and the services provided to students are free from discrimination and harassment.

 

Procedures

1.        Management will ensure there is no discrimination when:

  • Recruiting and selecting staff.

  • Marketing courses and training opportunities.

  • Selecting students for course entry.

  • Delivering course units.

  • Assessing students.

  • Reporting on student progress.

  • Assisting students in gaining employment.

 

2.        Whilst the College Manager has responsibility for the coordination of equal opportunity policies within the organisation, all staff and students have the responsibility to enact these policies through their own practices.  Issues relating to equal opportunity should be directed to her (or her delegate) in the first instance.

 

3.        Any complaints will be dealt with confidentially, quickly, seriously, in an unbiased manner, and without prejudice.

 

4.        Unresolved issues will be referred to the Manager, who may appoint an independent arbitrator to work through the issue with those concerned.
